Respected Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, has applauded the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu and the Flood Prevention and Management Committee for the sustained distribution of relief materials to flood-affected communities across the State, including the most recent intervention for Bonny and   Opobo/Nkoro LGAs today.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 26th November, 2025, the ONC described the ongoing relief efforts as “a demonstration of genuine compassion and responsible governance aimed at protecting vulnerable populations”.
According to the Congress, the timely intervention by the Committee—led by the Deputy Governor, and represented at by the Head of the Civil Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Iyingi Brown—shows the administration’s commitment to mitigating the harsh effects of flooding, which has continued to threaten livelihoods across the State.
The President General of the Orashi National Congress, Amb. Comr. Emeni Ibe, noted that the Orashi region, which is among the most flood-prone areas in Rivers State, has consistently felt the impact of climate-related challenges. He commended Governor Siminalayi Fubàra for prioritising disaster response and for ensuring that relief materials are taken directly to the grassroots.
He further praised Prof. Odu and members of the Flood Prevention and Management Committee for insisting on transparency, accountability, and fair distribution of the relief items, urging Local Government authorities to uphold these standards.
“This approach restores hope and strengthens the trust of the people in government interventions. We encourage the Council Chairmen to ensure that the materials get to all affected parts of Orashi and beyond, where many households continue to struggle with the effects of seasonal flooding,” the statement added.
The ONC also appreciated the Chairmen and representatives of the beneficiary LGAs for their cooperation and for acknowledging the State Government’s gesture, stressing the need for continued collaboration to ensure that relief items reach the most impacted families.
The group reiterated its commitment to partnering with the Rivers State Government on disaster response, environmental management, and long-term solutions to flooding within the State
