Industrialist and businessman, Chief Akai Egwuonwu, on Sunday, formally declared interest in the upcoming Anambra South senatorial by-election, on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
The declaration which took place at his country home in Amichi, Nnewi South local government area, attracted APGA leaders and stakeholders from the seven local government areas of Anambra South.
In his declaration speech, Chief Akai Egwuonwu asked for the support of APGA in all the seven LGAs of Anambra South, with a strong appeal that it is fair for Nnewi South, from the same Nnewi political bloc, to go.
Speaking on his legislative agenda, Chief Egwuonwu said that he has only three key areas he would channel his energy and ingenuity when elected to the senate. The first is security. Anambra South has a peculiar security challenge, and he pledged to deal with this challenge at once, leveraging late Sen. Ubah’s milestones.
Secondly, Chief Akai also assured of a special attention towards boasting small and medium businesses with grants. Narrating his experience with small business owners in parts of Anambra South and how the UK Government supports small businesses, Chief Egwuonwu said that helping medium and small scale businesses with funding options is a priority for him when elected as Anambra South senator.
Thirdly, he also pledged to use all legislative instruments such as motions, bills, and oversight to foster the interests of his constituents.
Those in attendance included Chief Maja Umeh, BOT member of APGA, Barr. Egwuoyibo Okoye, Hon. Barr. Kingsley Iruba, Hon. Van George Ezeogidi, Azubuike Osuchukwu, among many other stakeholders from Nnewi South, all of whom made a case to other six LGAs to support Nnewi South and Chief Akai Egwuonwu’s aspiration.
