Civil Liberties Organization, CLO Anambra State branch, has called for indepth and discreet investigation into circumstances surrounding abandoned $785m Dollars Umuchu -Agu Awka TCN project awarded in 2021 with nothing to show as House of Representatives begins probe of the contractor.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the contractor handling the project, Cartlark International Limited, was paid huge sum of money as mobilization and after the payment nothing much is seen on ground to show any meaningful progress on the project.

The CLO, in a statement signed by the chairman, Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme and Secretary, Comrade Chidi Mbah, said that evil triumphs not because of those who do it, but because good people sit back and do nothing.

The group also extolled the patriotism, diligence and compassion of Hon. Dom Okafor for his motion of urgent public importance on the floor of House of Representatives by bringing to their notice for prompt attention and action the abandoned multi million dollars project.

“We commend the Lower Chamber for their patriotic and nationalistic resolution to investigate the over $785 million projects to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the projects, which would have made life comfortable and secured the lives of citizens.”

“We appeal to the Honourable House to expedite actions towards constituting investigative panel and to order the contractor to immediately and urgently go back to site and commence works promptly.”

“According to Edmund Burke, “the reason we are governed by fools is because good people sit back and do nothing”. We must learn to say something if we see something.”

“The abandoned projects should not be allowed to be swept under the carpet. Perpetrators should be made to face the full wrath of law if anyone is found wanting. Citizens must take responsibility of all projects in their areas, monitor all projects and report under performing contractors to appropriate quarters for prompt actions. We must raise alarm on every projects awarded in our constituencies without commencement of work, abscondment after collection of mobilization fees or uncompleted projects.”

“Pertinently without the intervention of Hon. Dom Okafor we may not know that government invested such huge amount of money into the projects for comfortability and security of citizenry  with nothing to show for it.”

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, should also patriotically investigate the matter to unravel how such huge money was released for the life saving projects without any tangible works on the site or if the money eventually got into private pockets to the detriment of the citizens” CLO maintained.
