CLO Urges Buhari & Obiano To Declare State Of Emergency On Roads In Anambra State

Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO Anambra State branch, has decried with great disdain and agony the pathetic, decrepit and dilapidated condition of both Federal and State roads in Anambra State.

CLO made the statement in a press release issued to news men jointly endorsed by Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah Chairman and Secretary respectively, tagged Save Our Souls appeal to Buhari and Obiano to declare state of emergency on both Federal and State roads in Anambra State. 

“It is painful to note that failed Onitsha-Owerri, 3-3 Otuocha, Nnewi-Uga-Okigwe, Onitsha-Awkuzu -Awka Federal roads and 3-3 Nsugbe, Haruna -Niger Street, Ziks Avenue, Ochanja, Ugwuakwu-Ibughubu -Umuchu, Nnobi –Awka-Etiti state roads have inflicted sorrow, pains, hardship and sufferings to commuters and citizenry.”

“It is very unfortunate that deplorable condition of the roads has lead to unprecedented increase in the transport fares, goods and services.”

“CLO pleaded with both Federal and State governments to rescue the despicable and pathetic situation by commencing urgent and immediate palliative works on the roads. It is existential reality and irrefutable fact that not only the transport fares have skyrocketed up to one hundred percent, but most pathetic is that the journey that normally takes thirty minutes, now extends to three hours with wear and tear of vehicles, which commuters and citizenry spend a lot of money to repair.”

“CLO is of the opinion that Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola and Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ikejiofor, should as a matter of urgency and immediacy for public interest, visit the roads for on the spot assessment of the pitiable condition of dilapidated roads to enable them commence immediate palliative works to saves lives, properties, times wasted on daily basis, which could be avoided or minimized if the roads are fixed.”

“Governments should do the needful by giving the people of the state sense of belongings which is the essence of every government” CLO concluded.
