Civil Liberties Organisation Anambra State branch through the Chairman, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, has made a passionate appeal to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Sir Willie Obiano, to establish a special fund to cater for the pathetic and pitiable conditions of victims of devastating floods ravaging five Local Government Areas of Ogbaru, Ayamelum, Onitsha North, Anambra East and West and other areas in the State.
P.M.EXPRESS recalled that CLO had during last year’s disturbing flooding told both Federal and State governments to marshal out strategic proactive plans to forestall future occurrences of flooding in the country.
“Governments at all levels, public spirited individuals and corporate organisations should come to the aids of the victims.”
“NEMA and SEMA should without delay provide immediate relief materials and palliatives to the victims.”

“According to Pope Francis when one suffers directly, everyone suffers indirectly, hence the inevitable need to see their plights and predicaments as collective problems of all citizenry in solidarity with the victims.”
“A friend is known in times of problems not in progress and prosperity.”
“Governments should spare no efforts to ameliorate their pathetic predicaments through adequate provision of relief materials and palliatives to them, payment of adequate compensation and rehabilitation of victims and their crops destroyed by the flooding, most importantly to ensure continued education of children of victims of horrendous flooding in various IDP camps.”
“Such Internal Displaced Persons Camps should be extended to all Local Government Areas ravaged by flooding with adequate security and basic necessities of life to give them sense of belonging” the CLO maintained.
“We equally appreciate efforts of Government to curtail escalation of the flooding especially her warning to those living in riverine areas to relocate. Pertinently those involved should heed advice of the Government in order to protect and safeguard their lives and properties” Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme concluded.
