Posted on February 19, 2026

A Coalition of over 80 Civil Society and Non Governmental Organizations, Self Determination and Public Interests Groups under the aegis of Coalition for Good Governance (CCG) Electoral Act amendment 2026 on Wednesday commended President Bola Tinubu for his prompt presidential assent to the harmonized Electoral Act 2026 Amendment Bill passed by the National Assembly on February 17, 2026.

According to the Group, in a statement signed by Nelson Ekujumi and other leaders, it expressed the delight and appreciation of Nigerians to Mr President over the prompt presidential assent to the bill within 24 hours after its passage by the national assembly.

The group stated that by his statesmanly and patriotic action, “President Bola Tinubu has once again demonstrated his credentials as a democratic leader per excellence whose commitment to the sustenance and progress of Nigeria’s democracy and the interest of her people is sancrosant”.

The coalition noted that “By this presidential assent of the Electoral Act 2026 amendment bill into a law, Mr. President has set the ball rolling for all stakeholders to be guided with regards to the 2027 general elections”.

In the same vein, the Coalition expressed gratitude to the Senate and the House of Representatives for its passage of the harmonized version of the Electoral Act 2026 amendment bill on Tuesday 17th February 2026.

“We are extremely grateful and wholeheartedly commend the Senate and the house of Representatives for harkening to the yearnings of Nigerians on the harmonized bill” which is now a law following Mr President assent.

“We commend both houses of the national assembly for standing up for democracy which is about the people despite the orchestrated attacks, intimidation and campaign of blackmail and calumny by those whose interests and agenda points in the direction of endangering our democracy and throwing the country into needless and avoidable chaos by their campaign of blackmail on immediate electronic transmission of election results even in the face of facts and evidence which points in the contrary direction”.

The coalition then called on Nigerians to be vigilant and not allow themselves to be hoodwinked by those masquerading as advocates of free, fair and transparent elections, but will not submit to debates, dialogue and discussions which are critical tenets of democracy and mischievously are always quick to resort to campaign of blackmail and calumny to force their minority irrational and illogical opinion on the mass of the ever conscious and intelligent Nigerian people.

According to the coalition, “As we countdown to the 2027 general elections, we call on Nigerians to be on the alert for enemies of democracy who are wolves, but will come in sheep clothing, to confuse and incite Nigerians in order to endanger our democracy and society, we must say no to their evil plots that will fail”.

Other leaders of the Coalition who signed are: Comrades Razaq Olokoba, Gbenga Soloki, Razaq Oladosu, Raheem Ajayi, Uche Nnadozie, Wole Adepoju, Linus Okoroji and Ajayi Popoola.

Others are Funmi Olusola, Shola Omolola, Peter Oparah, Gbenga Omage, Abdul-Malik Mohammed, George Oghenebruwe, Margaret Omotunde, Abuka Omobaba Onalo and Kudu Ibrahim.
