Committee On Flood Prevention & Management: ONC Shouldn’t Be Excluded From Orashi Stakeholders Engagement With Govt

The Orashi National Congress, ONC, said its attention has been drawn to the sensitization of Orashi people with regards to imminent high tide and flood predictions by NiMet as orchestrated by Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Prof. (Mrs.) Ngozi Nma Odu, Dssrs,
According to the ONC, the meeting turned out great with the newly setup State Committee for Flood Prevention and Management fully present and re-introduced. But the group rejected its exclusion and appealed for the inclusiveness of all critical stakeholders like the Orashi National Congress and the Orashi Youth Forum in subsequent programmes.
The visiting train of Her Excellency had Her Excellency, Deputy Governor as chairman of the committee, Chief Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, Dssrs (Secretary to State Government and Secretary of Flood Committee), Head of Civil Service – Dr. George C. Nwaeke Mni, Hon. Commissioner for Environment – Hon. Tambari Sydney Gbara – Member, Hon. Commissioner of Agric. – Hon. Victor kii – Member, Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties – Hon. Dr. Sam Anya – Member, Hon. Commissioner for Special Projects – Chief Hon. Dr. Roland obed Whyte – Member, Hon. Commissioner for chieftaincy and community affairs – Hon. Engr. Charles Amadi, Hon. Commissioner for Health – Dr. Mrs. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh – Member, Hon. Commissioner for Information- Warisenibo Joe Johnson – Member, Dr. Nwaobidi Kingsley Chibuzor — Keynote Speaker, Immediate past state chairman Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Dr. Sylvanus Ojum – Director, Rivers State Emergency Medical Response and Ambulance System (REMSAS).

Ideally, the Sim Fubara-led Government is putting her left foot out rightly by setting up and mandating this state committee to take up measures and actions to ameliorate the plight of the affected flood victims thereby protecting their lives.
While speaking, President General of Orashi National Congress, Snr. Comrade Amb Emeni Ibe said, “It was a great and welcome development that needs our involvement in important meetings like this. We strongly believe that with Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor, as Chairman of the Committee, we are hopeful that the right things will done”.
“However, we (the leadership and members of the ONC) expected that our BOT Chairman will make the list as a member of the State Committee considering his weath of experience. Aside our exclusion, we appeal for the inclusion of our BOT Chairman, the Mboh of Ogbaland, High Chief Dr Shedrack Akolokwu, as part of the Committee” Amb Comrade Emeni Ibe stated on Wednesday.
