Communal Reunion: Lagos Lawmaker Leads Amuneke, Others Back To Ijora-Oloye Pitch

Deputy majority leader of the Lagos house of assembly who is the lawmaker representing Apapa/Iganmu constituency 2; Honourable Olumuyiwa Jimoh over the weekend led ex-internationals, Emmanuel Amuneke and Taiwo Enegwea back to their root for a novelty match to relieve old memories and motivate the constituents.

In what can be tagged a home coming event hosted by the Apapa/Iganmu All Stars FC which the Lawmaker is a member, the White Sand Football Field in Ijora-Oloye saw residents in the community trooped out to catch a glimpse of their illustrious sons who have come to share in the football passion that has always united them in time immemorial.

Hon Olumuyiwa Jimoh a two term lawmaker, who has been the rallying point for the young and the aged in his constituency threw his weight behind the communal gathering as a way of fostering peace and harmony.

“That is the tradition I grew up with, some of the people here are my contemporaries, my juniors while some are my seniors in the secondary school like Amuneke and Enegwea, so we decided to create a time like this to reminisce and impact our community”.

Jimoh who has driven a lot of sports related projects in his constituency is a football enthusiast who does not underestimate the power of sports

“I see football as a tool for development, for fitness and it is also good for education, educating the coming generation that hope is not lost, that as you develop your body, you should also develop your brain and I will continue to do what I have a lot of believe in like the grassroots development of sports and investing in people “.

Former African footballer of the year,  Emmanuel Amuneke, who grew up in Apapa/Iganmu area where his formative football skills were horned was overwhelmed by the reception he received from the people of the community, especially young people who see him as a role model.

“I feel great to be here today and it is an honour and privilege to see people that I grew up with, my classmates, a lot of memories to recall growing up in this area and my message for the young ones is to work hard in every area of endeavour that they find themselves and be truthful”.

Another son of the soil who was always a bone of contention in the football rivalry between Ijora Badia and Orile Iganmu ,a member of the 1989 Flying Eagles squad of the Damman miracle fame in Saudi Arabia, Taiwo Enegwea was also part of the novelty game graced by politicians, youth leaders, grassroots coaches and sports for development experts.
