A 44-year old company worker, Michael Ohei, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a pack of evaporated Peak milk worth N15,000.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 3rd March, 2024 at Friesland Campina company located at Engir. Laidi Street, Alase area of Ogba,  Lagos, where the suspect, Ohei, was employed as a worker.
The company management reported the matter to the Police at Pen-Cinema Division alleging that the suspect stole 17 pieces of evaporated Peak milk worth the said amount and wants him to be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to other workers who may want to try such in the future.
Thus, the Police moved into action, arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation over the alleged offence.
After interrogation,  the Police reportedly tried to persuade the management to forgive the suspect and allow him to pay for the stolen items. But the management insisted on his prosecution for theft.
Thus, he was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendant pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate granted him bail with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
