The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), today held a strategic meeting with the executives of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ikeja Chapter.
The Union, led by Alhaji Mobolaji Ganiyu Isiaka (popularly known as Soku), was summoned by the Chairman to deliberate on traffic challenges and the persistent indiscriminate parking around Ikeja, with the aim of finding a lasting solution to the gridlock that hampers free flow of movement within the city.
During the meeting, the Executive Chairman, Comrade Dauda expressed concerns about the man-hours wasted in traffic when entering and exiting Ikeja, stressing that the situation negatively impacts productivity, commercial activities, and overall business patronage in the area.
In response, the Union executives acknowledged the concerns and appealed to the Chairman to facilitate the provision of a designated garage or park for buses. They noted that the absence of such a facility has compelled bus operators to load and park indiscriminately along the roads, which remains a major cause of the congestion.
Comrade Dauda assured the Union of his readiness to address the situation promptly. He pledged to use his office to ease the burden on commuters and improve traffic flow, while also promising to work on the request for a designated park. He further charged the Union executives to cooperate fully with government initiatives to ensure sustainable progress and visible results.
The Union executives, in turn, commended the Council Chairman for his proactive approach and his commitment to making Ikeja a business-friendly hub. They pledged their support to the government in ensuring traffic sanity within the metropolis.
In attendance at the meeting was the Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Abisola Omisore (Omituntun).
