Coronavirus: Farmers Are Free To Go To Farms, Says Aregbesola

Posted on April 2, 2020

As restriction of movement continues in Abuja, Lagos and from Friday in Ogun State, as well as lockdown in some states across the country, all in a bid to contain the spread of the dreaded novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has disclosed that farmers and all those Nigerians who are engaged in agricultural services are free to go about their works.

The former Governor of Osun State specifically said that framers are free to go to their farms as it will be very difficult for them to stay at home when the people need foods on their tables.

Aregbesola was speaking during the daily press briefing by the Presidential Taskforce on Control of COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday.

The Minister was responding to a question asked in Yoruba about how Nigerians in various villages across the country would have access to the palliative packages promised by President Muhammadu Buhari when he addressed the country at the weekend.

Aregbesola made it clear that if the farmers are to be restricted, the production line of making food available to the people might have been halted, hence the need for the farmers to go about their work during the lockdown in the selected states and the FCT.

He also said that the vulnerable Nigerians should be rest assured that the palliatives promised by President Buhari, which the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Crisis Management is handling, will get to them
