Coronavirus: Price Of Goods Skyrocket, CLO Begs Nigerians To Be Brothers Keeper

Social Critic and Human Rights Activist, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, has called on Nigerians to desist from and resist the get rich quick syndrome especially at this trying period in our national life precipitated by current Coronavirus pandemic ravaging the global community. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the CLO Chairman, Ezekwueme, gave the advice on the heels of the skyrocketed price of goods and services in Nigeria since the lockdown to control the virus.

Ezekwueme made the remarks while briefing the press on the consequences of total shutdown in order to control the escalation of the dreadful and deadly Coronavirus. 

He quoted Mahatma Gandhi, who said that “One of the worst blunders of the world is commerce without morality”.

“Unfortunately, Nigerians use every opportunity for exploitations. At this period of health and wealth challenges, unpatriotic Nigerians arbitrarily increased the prices of their goods and services, which had essential commodities and drugs increased by as much as 300 to 400 percent.”

“It is pertinent for governments to leave no stone unturned in helping bring down prices of goods and services as Coronavirus has brought untold hardship, agony, pains and sufferings to the citizenry. The poor, downtrodden and less privileged ones are worst affected” he said.

He appealed to governments, the political class and public spirited individuals to device means to ensure that palliative measures to cushion the effects of Coronavirus reached those who actually deserved it. 

“It is pertinent to note that one spoon of rice is more valuable when it is needed than a pot of rice in abundance. I commend those who had contributed and still contributing towards control and alleviation of Coronavirus in the country” he concluded. 

It is of prime importance for our political office holders to go to their respective constituencies and provides food items, sanitisers, infra red thermometers and masks to enable them adequately protect themselves against coronavirus. 

Governments should concentrate on how to put smiles on the faces of the poor, who depend on their daily income to fend for their families” the CLO Chairman, Ezekwueme posited.
