As the Under 21 male team of Nigeria came back from two sets down to win their Cameroonian counterparts 3-2 Wednesday at the ongoing Africa Under 21 Volleyball Nations Cup in Abuja, Egnr. Musa Nimrod , the President of Volleyball Federation of Nigeria has said that developmental programmes are his priorities.
Egnr. Nimrod was very elated that the players raised their game very well to volley themeselves to reckoning in the game, adding that it will be a great achievement if the team can pick one of the slots to represent Africa at the World Under 21 Volleyball Championship.
He said the most important thing the federation is focusing is the development of the game and the players in the country because the players are the future senior players having disbanded the senior team recently .
“We disbanded the senior team. So most of the players are the future players in the senior team. I am very happy that they won the game , that is volleyball for you, but I never put the team under pressure to win”, Nimrod said.
“I am interested in the development of the game and the players in Nigeria. Developmental programmes are my priorities in volleyball. When our girls went to Kenya, I never put pressure on them to win, but today there are clubs from Egypt looking out to sign our girls. So , I am satisfied”, he added.
” It is not winning, winning and winning all the time. Winning all the time does not make you to see your mistakes and this can be counter productive in sports”, he said.
Surprisingly, Nigeria lost to Rwanda 3-0 in one of the games played on Thursday to the dismay of Nigerian fans at the indoor hall of Abuja National Stadium.
