Donald Ojogo: The Man The Cap Fits

Only a few like Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Chief Bisi Onabanjo and Chief Mbadinuju from the fourth estate of the realm among others have successfully done it. Others have merely contended with their kingmaker status.

However, that docility from them is about to change as some of them are throwing their hats into the political/elective offices ring for next year’s election. They no longer want to be appointees answerable to someone else but want people to be answerable to them.

This time, the searchlight is on Donald Ojogo.

An accomplished journalist who started his professional calling with the Guardian Newspapers of Nigeria as a cub energy reporter.

Haven horned his reportorial skills with the flagship, Ojogo set out from the Guardian to the then Comet as its state correspondent, Akure and later joined the Daily Independent. From Independent, he bags the job of a  Press Secretary to late the Governor Agagu (2007-2009), moved to Tribune first as  Bureau Chief, South-South, then Regional Editor, South-South/South East.

Ojogo was not done yet, he returned to Daily Independent as its politics Editor, Abuja later joined Leadership Newspaper Abuja and became the paper’s  Group Politics  Editor, Abuja before moving to  New Telegraph. In fact, he was a rolling stone that gathered moss.

From the newsrooms, he took up an appointment as senior technical adviser (Policy, Strategy and Public Affairs) to Hon Minister of State, Agriculture.

From the office of the honorable minister, he journeyed to Ondo State first as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) before his appointment as the commissioner for lands and Housing in August 2017.

He eventually left the cabinet in September 2018, 13 months after, to seek the mandate of the people of Ilaje/Esa-odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State to represent them at the House of Representatives.

And all things being equal, and with his membership of the right party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC),  Ojogo is on his way to adding Honourable to his name and so shall it in next June.
