All Progressives Congress chieftain, Dr. Tony Nwoye, on Sunday 29th December, 2019, empowered over 500 persons with various Items ranging from motorcycles, sewing machines and grinding machines and a grant of N30,000.00 to over 200 indigent persons to start a small business. The former lawmaker admonished the youth in the country to acquire skills as a way out of unemployment.

Dr. Tony Nwoye, who represented the good people of Anambra East and West Federal Constituency at the 8th National Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, spoke at the Nsugbe Social Club Hall where he organised the empowerment scheme.

He said, “Nigeria has so many unemployable youths because they lack vocational skills. When people get skills, they have everything they need to start and stand in life.”

The former lawmaker and governorship candidate of APC in 2017 Governorship Election said no government could singlehandedly employ everyone that was seeking employment, but much could be done to empower youths with skills.

Dr. Tony Nwoye, who empowered 700 persons including women and youths with tools for fashion designing, grinding business and others at the event, said he would continue to do more.

“I intend to train and empower more of our youth in the second or third quarter of the year. This empowerment will be for the whole state and target is to empower over 20,000 youths and women in the state” he said.

At the empowerment programme, several items including 50 grinding machines, 150 motorcycles, 190 sewing machines, grant of N30,000 among others were presented to the people.

It will be recalled in May 2019, Dr. Tony Nwoye empowered over 2000 youths and women in various fields of skill training and many were given grants to start business ranging from N30,000, N50,000 and N100,000. He said he is happy today to do more because the former beneficiaries were doing well with what they received from the last empowerment. This is the 4th Empowerment scheme Dr. Tony Nwoye has done in the last 3 years with over 7000 persons empowered so far and across the state.

They also received take-off grants from the former lawmaker to assist them to become self-reliant. Dr. Tony Nwoye urged them to make the best use of the skill, grants and items they had acquired.

“There are between 150 million and 180 million people in Nigeria. There will always be market for every skill.”

The President General-Elect of Nsugbe town, who was also at the event, commended Dr. Tony Nwoye for supporting his people and prayed to God to continue to bless him. The President General-elect said Dr. Tony Nwoye had ploughed back to the society by spending millions of Naira to train and empower the beneficiaries. He urged the beneficiaries to value the sacrifice made by the former lawmaker to give them a new lease of life.

One of the recipients, who spoke on behalf of others, commended Dr Tony Nwoye for the gesture and assured him that they would not disappoint him. Another recipient, who spoke on behalf of others, commended Dr. Nwoye for adding value to their lives through the empowerment programme even as they promised to put the equipment into maximum use to help address the challenges facing their families .

Highlight of the event was the presentation of motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines to the beneficiaries and presentation of cheques of N30,000 to other beneficiaries.
