Prominent women leader and community advocate, Ugoeze Dr. Vivian Sunshine Obi, popularly known as Ochiora Nwanyichinawaraoji Ndigbo Lagos, has been nominated to serve as the Lagos State Coordinator for Global Women of Purpose.

The nomination was conveyed through the Director General of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Dame Rita Daniels, who is also the Ohanaeze National Women Leader Worldwide.

Global Women of Purpose is a network of women leaders committed to driving policy, trade, and governance for inclusive development. The organization draws inspiration from the trailblazing leadership of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and focuses on equipping women to take seats at decision-making tables and shape economies that work for all.

In her new role, Dr. Obi will coordinate the activities of the network in Lagos State, mobilize women across sectors, and ensure alignment with the group’s objectives of advancing women’s participation in governance, commerce, and community development.

Dr. Obi brings decades of experience in women advocacy and community leadership to the position. She currently serves as President of The Progressive Women Advocacy Organization. She is also National Women Leader, Center for Promotion and Peace Asiwaju Ambassadors and Friends for Good Governance.

Additionally, she holds the position of Southern Women Leader, The Game Changer Support Groups and serves as Ohaneze Political Women Leader, Lagos. She is also recognized as Pioneer and Former Chairman, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ejigbo in Lagos State.

Speaking on the nomination, stakeholders noted that Dr. Obi’s track record in grassroots mobilization and women empowerment makes her well suited to drive the mandate of Global Women of Purpose in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The appointment is expected to strengthen collaboration between women leaders in Lagos and national platforms working to promote inclusive governance and economic participation.

Leaders of Global Women of Purpose emphasized that the network will continue to provide capacity building, policy engagement, and mentorship opportunities for women at all levels. The focus, they said, is to ensure more women are represented in trade negotiations, political processes, and governance structures across Nigeria and beyond.

With Lagos being a hub for commerce and political activity, the role of State Coordinator is seen as strategic to expanding the reach of the network and amplifying the voices of women in key decisions that affect communities.

The nomination adds to Dr. Obi’s growing profile as a leading voice for Igbo women in Lagos and for women advocacy in Nigeria’s political and social space.
