Driver, 44, In Trouble For Beating Up Female Police Officer

A commercial bus driver, Henry Chukwuka, has landed in trouble for allegedly assaulting a female Police officer, Inspector Martina Uguru, attached to Gowon Estate Division.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the 44-year old driver, Chukwuka, has been arrested and charged over his conduct against Inspector Uguru.
The incident happened on 27th October, 2025, at Moshalashi Roundabout, Iyana Ipaja, Alimosho Local Government area of Lagos where Police officer was performing her lawful duty.
According to the Police, the suspect, who is commercial bus driver was accosted by the complainant and he demanded for N1000 for the money she had collected from the motorists which was quite unusual.
The demand caused a disagreement between them and the suspect unlawfully assaulted Inspector Uguru by forcefully and intentionally carrying her in his vehicle to an unknown destination in attempt to avoid arrest and causing injury on her leg.
The matter was reported to the DPO, SP Odumade Yetunde and she ordered for the arrest of the driver and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
The Police found him culpable after interrogation and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, Henry Chukwuka “M” on the 27th day of October, 2025 at about 18:12hrs at Moshalashi Roundabout, Iyana Ipaja, Alimosho Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in the public in manner likely to cause breach of the peace by requesting a Police officer, who is on her lawful duty to give you one Thousand Naira change (N1000.00) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168(1) d) and punishable under Section 168 of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT 2: “That you, Henry Chukwuka “M” on the same date, at about 19:32hrs and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault Inspector Martina Uguru “F” by forcefully and intentionally carrying her in your vehicle to an unknown destination in attempt to avoid arrest and causing injury to her leg while on her official duty and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 170 and punishable under Section 171 of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT 3: “That you, Henry Chukwuka “F” on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, being the driver of a vehicle Sukuzi Every Bus (commercial) with Registration no.TRE03XC did drive the vehicle on the public highway in a manner dangerous to other road users and transport section reform laws of Lagos state, Nigeria
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. F.R. Ogunkoyede, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
