Education District IV Holds The 2nd ‘Walk For Fitness’ Programme

The Lagos State Education District IV has held its 2nd ‘Walk for Fitness’ programme in a bid to encourage members of staff to be physically, mentally and emotionally stable for improved productivity in the discharge of their duties.
 
Speaking during the programme, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS), Education District IV, Mr. Olusegun Olawale Osinaike said the Walk was conceived to ensure that the staff of the District embrace the habit of participating regularly in sporting activities for a healthy lifestyle.
He emphasised the need for the staff of the District, especially teachers, to inculcate and practice healthy habits in their daily lives, stressing that education is all-inclusive terms that comprise academic, character building and skills development traits.

The TG/PS also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Head of Service Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola for their continuous support and contributions to the progress and development of the education sector in Lagos State.

According to him: “In terms of productivity, we have an able Governor and a vibrant Head of Service that has both created an atmosphere that will allow workers to participate in sports and sporting activities during the Public Service Week. As we speak, the Head of Service (HOS) games is on and this will help improve the stamina and stability of the workforce towards improved productivity”.

Also speaking at the event, the Director, Co-Curricular Science and Technology, Education District IV, Mrs. Adenike Abimbola Ajayi stated that sport is life and exercise keeps everyone fit and energetic.

“When you indulge in physical exercises, you chase the doctors away. We are however not relenting in embracing more sporting activities knowing fully well that the TG/PS is a sports person. I wish to also encourage our staff to practice physical exercises at home during their spare time”, she said.

The Chairperson, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Secondary Schools (ANCORPSS) Lagos Mainland Zone, Dr. (Mrs.) Olusola Adenekan applauded the TG/PS for allowing the staff of the District to keep fit to help build their mental and physical health., imploring all members of staff to do more at home as physical exercises should not be a one-off thing.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS), Education District IV, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike led the other staff members in the ‘Walk for Fitness’ from the District Headquarter in Sabo to Rowe Park Sports Complex in Yaba. The programme also featured other sporting events, such as Dancing and Table Tennis competitions.
