Lagos was wrapped in culture, elegance, and cinematic brilliance on Sunday as the much-anticipated historical film “Efunroye (The Unicorn)” premiered to an exclusive audience, drawing together film stakeholders, cultural custodians, and entertainment enthusiasts in a night that celebrated heritage and storytelling at its finest.

The premiere event, held in Lagos, marked a powerful reawakening of one of Nigeria’s most iconic historical figures — Madam Efunroye Tinubu, the revered first Iyalode of Egbaland and pioneer Iyaloja of Lagos.

The film, produced by veteran actress and filmmaker Fathia Balogun and her team, was met with overwhelming praise for its depth, cultural richness, and cinematic excellence.

A major highlight of the evening came with a heartfelt message from the family of Madam Tinubu, who expressed profound appreciation for the production team’s effort in portraying their matriarch’s legacy with dignity and historical balance.

The family commended the film for restoring “truth, balance, and honour” to her story while situating historical narratives within a broader global context.

Speaking at the premiere, Faithia Balogun described the project as a passion-driven journey of cultural responsibility, noting: “This film is about telling our story with pride, truth, and respect. Madam Tinubu’s legacy deserves to be seen in her full strength and historical importance.”

The premiere also attracted a strong presence of dignitaries and celebrities including MC Oluomo, Bukky Wright, Toyin Abraham, Sola Sobowale, alongside several local government chairmen, politicians, and other influential personalities who all graced the event in support of the film.

Industry guests at the premiere applauded the production for its attention to detail, powerful storytelling, and cultural authenticity, describing it as a bold cinematic effort that reintroduces history in a compelling and relatable way.

Following the successful premiere, Efunroye (The Unicorn) is officially set for nationwide cinema release on May 1st, with expectations already high as audiences anticipate a gripping historical experience on the big screen.
