On Thursday, Ekiti State House of Assembly impeached and removed Mr. Olusegun Mayowa Adewumi as its Deputy Speaker.

Adewunmi, representing Ekiti West Constituency 1, was impeached by his colleagues during the Thursday plenary and elected Adesina Bamidele Animashaun as the new deputy speaker.

In September 2016, there was a palpable tension in the Ekiti Assembly as Adewumi narrowly escaped being impeached by his colleagues over undisclosed reasons.

But this time, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Adewunmi was sacked over series of allegations of gross misconduct.

The former deputy speaker was also accused of some “personal misconduct likely to bring the House into disrepute, obvious threat to peace of members, obstruction of constitutional functions of the house and dereliction, desertion, abscondment and abandonment of constitutional vested responsibilities of the Office of the Deputy Speaker.”

According to the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Dr. Samuel Omotosho, the former Deputy Speaker was removed after the collection of signatures of two third majority members thus it was unanimously passed by the House as required by law.

Omotosho added that the House in its resolution also mandated the Clerk of the House to ensure that the former Deputy Speaker hands over all properties of the House in his care with immediate effect.

The House also considered the unopposed nomination of Mr. Sina Animashaun, representing Ekiti West 2, who was unanimously elected by the House as the New Deputy Speaker.

Animasaun, a native of Okemesi-Ekiti, is a 1991 Graduate of Biochemistry from the Ekiti State University.

In the same vein, the House also removed Mr. Sunday Akinniyi as the Chief Whip of the House.

Akinniyi, from Ikere Constituency 2 was replaced with Mr. Olawale Onigiobi from Ekiti South West 1.
