The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, has condemned the killing of vigilante operatives in Abagana community, Njikoka LGA.
On Friday, February 3, 2023, it was reported that gunmen attacked the community in a gestapo style killing about three community vigilante operatives and a tricycle driver during an incident that was said to have occurred at Ezi Nobert, a popularly street in the community.
In a statement on Saturday, Ekwunife, who received the news of the incident shortly after she completed her campaign tour in Njikoka LGA, described the act as tragic and horrifying. She expressed regret over the killing of the vigilante operatives and tricycle driver.
“It is with sadness that I received the news of last night’s ugly incident which marked a steep in the effort by the government of Anambra State to secure the lives and property of citizens. Incidents like this where unknown gunmen attack and kill vigilante operatives on duty as well as innocent citizens must be nipped in the bud.”
Ekwunife charged the security apparatus in the state to swing into action and ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are apprehended and brought to justice. She stressed the need for security agencies in the state to step up intelligence in order to forestall future incidents, stating that no government can achieve its plans for the citizenry in an insecure environment.
Ekwunife sympathised with the people of Abagana community, particularly families of those who lost their lives in the savage attack. She prayed God to grant the souls of the departed a peaceful repose.
