Ekwunife Reiterates Commitment To Use Instrument Of Legislation To Better Lives Of Young People

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, has celebrated Nigerian youths on the occasion of 2021 International Youth Day celebration. She hailed the youths for their creativity and indomitable spirit in spite of the challenges bedeviling the nation.

In a statement on Thursday, Ekwunife noted that these are challenging times for the youths, “many of whom are struggling to put their knowledge and talents into use in a country where opportunities available to young people are limited by the economic and developmental challenges facing the country”.

The Senator used the opportunity presented by the youth day celebration to encourage young people to remain steadfast and committed to building a greater nation through active and responsible civic engagements.

“In Spite of the challenges facing the average Nigerian youth, the power to effect positive change and guide leaders aright still lie with the youths. The youths must therefore utilize platforms that empower them to be heard and contribute firmly to the nation’s developmental process because the young people are on the frontlines of the struggle to build a better future for all”, She said.

Ekwunife described this year’s theme: “Transforming food systems, Youth innovation for human and planetary health as essential to encouraging the youths to embrace healthy living and abstinence from drug abuse amongst other indulging desires that may be harmful to health.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation further noted that while the youths have a role to play in nation building, the bulk of the responsibility of building a nation that guarantees opportunities for the youths falls on the government. She challenged young people to be innovative and develop a global mindset that enable them to see beyond ethnic, religious and societal differences while making leadership choices.

According to the youth friendly Senator, “Nigeria as a nation must take actionable steps towards youth development by developing an educational system that empowers young people to be self-reliant. “The country must go further to create a system that provides equal opportunities for young people and ensures the growth of small and medium scale enterprises”, Ekwunife added.

Senator Ekwunife reiterated her commitment to using the instrument of legislation to better the lives of Nigerian youths. In a special way, the quintessential lawmaker acknowledged the youths of Anambra State for their doggedness in spite of the challenges facing the state and the nation at large, and urged them to continue to develop the right character and knowledge that will allow them compete favourably for national and global opportunities.
