EndSARS: NGO Donates Medical Equipment To Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital

An America-based non governmental organisation, Milestone Medical Outreach Incorporated has donated medical equipment to the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State.
The foundation, which is incorporated in the United States of America, is a not-for-profit organization that advocates for quality health care, education and social services in low socio-economic communities.
Founded by a US-based medical practitioner, Dr. Felicia Bassey-Akamune, the NGO donated 10 hospital beds, sheets, mattresses and others to cushion the effects of the looting of the hospital by hoodlums in October.
Speaking while making the donation, an official of the foundation and Village Head of Ikot Awatim, Ntufam Patrick Offiong Bassey said they were shocked by the destruction of the hospital by the hoodlums.
According to him, the intervention is aimed at helping the hospital continue offering services to the community.
“After the protest we visited some of the facilities and the level of destruction was heart rending. I was speechless and in tears to see the extent of damage done to our few/weak public facilities so the Milestone Medical Mission and Nka Ikem Esit is reaching out to make this token donation to help the hospital in their recovery process.
“The hospital as it was before was not rendering enough service to the community and the looting came and crippled them.
“So we chose to start our intervention at the hospital because they are not politically connected like the other facilities that were destroyed and they are rendering service to the community,” he said.
Speaking while receiving the items, the CMD of the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Calabar, Dr. Bassey Edet commended the outreach for the intervention.
He said it is the sign of the sense of community we have as a people and emphasised that the equipment will go a long way in helping the hospital in its process of recovery.
