Igbo Leader and one of Ndieze Igbo in Lagos State, Eze Chika Nwokedi, has enjoined Ndigbo in the State to show love and embrace peace and unity among themselves for the betterment of Ndigbo in general.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Eze Nwokedi stated this on the heels of lingering crises in the Igbo Speaking Community over the years, which had been subject of litigation at the High Court in Lagos State.
The call may have signaled that the days of selfish and short sighted Igbo leaders in diaspora appear to be coming to an expected end to give way for new leadership with ideas and innovation to emerge.
Eze Nwokedi, popularly known as Eze Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu, has vowed to lead a new crusade for Igbo self development, independence and reliance on credible leaders to pilot the affairs of Ndigbo in Lagos State.
Quoting the Holy Bible while preaching peace and love, Eze Chika Nwokedi called for brotherhood, togetherness, forgiveness and love among Ndigbo to surmount the obstacles put out against them by Igbo haters.
Eze Nwokedi advised Igbo leaders and Ndieze notwithstanding their groups and leaning, to always avoid doing or exhibiting some tendencies that attract mockery and disdain from their host ethnic group.
On the Igbo Speaking Community crisis, Eze Okpoko 1, categorically dismissed insinuations by detractors that he is power hungry and wants to remain in power as Chairman of Council of Ndieze Igbo.
Eze Nwokedi said the recent publications on the social media on the war going on recently amongst the Igbo Speaking Community members, was regrettable and heart rendering to him as a peace loving person, adding that he was pushed to the wall before he fought back to put records straight.
He expressed concern over the bad image Igbos are drawing to Igbo integrity and cultural heritage and he queried why the Igbos will sojourn to Lagos in another tribe’s land and engage themselves in an unprofitable Ezeship throne tussle to the anger of the Yoruba host, who are grumbling on the proliferation diaspora Ndieze, which has exceeded the 60 Obas in the State.
“Why are we betraying our brothers? Nobody that kills his brother can receive trophy; if you destroy your brother’s integrity or sell him to outsiders, they will buy it but will cease to trust you.”
He stated that there is need to unite Ndieze and Igbo Speaking Community for the genuine interest of Ndigbo in Lagos State.
“If the Igbo Speaking Community Association in Lagos State will embrace peace and come under one umbrella, One President General, One Council of Ndieze, there will be no need to contest for the leadership position in the Council of Ndieze.”
He advised that there is need to strengthen the BOT of the Igbo Speaking Community by appointing Board members to replace those who are no longer alive and conduct election that will be acceptable to all in order to unite the Igbo Speaking Community under one leadership.
“I have been a member of the Igbo Speaking Community since 1999. I only want to see Igbos becoming one. Believe me, if we are one today, I will never contest in an election. Somebody brought money to buy land and build the Igbo Speaking Community Secretariat to the tune of over N22m about 10 years ago but that money disappeared.”
“We need to ask questions and demand credibility. God gave me the instruction to accept the position of Eze and free my people from this level of ccorruption.” Eze Nwokedi stated.
