The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID Annex Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, has charged officers and men of the Formation to remain committed to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, discipline, and respect for the rule of law.

The AIG gave the charge on Sunday, August 2, 2026, during the Formation’s Lecture Parade held at the FCID Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

He commended officers for their unwavering dedication, loyalty, and support towards the growth of the Nigeria Police Force. He also applauded sectional heads for their commitment to effective leadership, supervision, and operational excellence.

Reaffirming the Inspector-General of Police’s vision for a professional, accountable, and people-oriented Police Force, AIG Akpanudom directed all supervisory officers to give priority to the welfare of personnel. He specifically mentioned officers who are ill or currently off duty, noting that staff welfare remains fundamental to improved productivity and efficient service delivery.

The AIG cautioned officers against corruption, extortion, bribery, and other unethical practices capable of eroding public trust in the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized that misconduct in any form will not be tolerated. He urged detectives to discharge their investigative responsibilities with fairness, diligence, and strict adherence to the law.

He further warned against unlawful arrests, indiscriminate transfer of case files, prolonged detention of suspects, and the criminalization of purely civil disputes. According to him, investigators are fact-finders and not judges. He reminded personnel to uphold the fundamental rights of every individual and ensure that all investigations are intelligence-led, evidence-based, and conducted in accordance with extant laws.

On service delivery, the AIG urged officers to maintain courtesy in their interactions with members of the public, strictly adhere to the approved dress code, and continually project a positive image of the Force through exemplary conduct.

He also highlighted the importance of teamwork in investigations. He directed sectional heads to actively supervise cases under them and ensure proper coordination through designated team leaders. He further encouraged officers to embrace continuous learning and capacity building, especially in emerging areas such as cybercrime investigation and digital policing.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, FCID Annex Lagos, ASP Mayegun Aminat, anipr MNISMA, in her remarks, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to transparent communication and community partnership. She urged members of the public to report any form of misconduct and to work with the Police in the prevention and detection of crime.
