Fear has gripped Ndieze and stakeholders of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, over the sharing of Air Peace N4 million and Ezendigbo Gburugburu N3.5 million certificate money as former President General, Chief Sunday Udeh, threatens to release the register of beneficiaries.
PMEXPRESS gathered that the tension followed a voice note recorded during a meeting with the Council of Elders led by Eze John Nwosu, where Chief Udeh was summoned to explain his role in the issuance of certificates to Obi of Lagos and Ezendigbo Gburugburu.
In the viral voice note now circulating on WhatsApp and Facebook platforms of Igbo groups in Lagos, Chief Udeh was heard giving account of how the Air Peace boss gave the community N4 million and how he went there with some Ndieze and stakeholders and they shared the money accordingly including his Executives.
He also admitted that the holder of Ezendigbo Gburugburu title paid N3.5 million for certificate which he shared among some beneficiaries loyal to him.
The development has caused tension and panic among some Ndieze and stakeholders who are now afraid that Chief Udeh may release the register containing names of beneficiaries.
At the meeting, Chief Udeh narrated how the Air Peace delegation was received and how the N4 million was divided among those who went and members of his executive council. He gave a detailed account of how the money was shared.
On the Ezendigbo Gburugburu certificate, Chief Udeh also mentioned some beneficiaries and threatened to bring the register to mention their names publicly. Sources at the meeting said he was bold in his presentation and insisted that he has documentary evidence of everyone who benefited.
According to sources who listened to the voice note, Udeh said he has a register where he recorded all the names and amounts given to each person and he will not hesitate to bring it out if they continue to push him.
Former President General of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, Chief Sunday Udeh, had earlier admitted selling certificates to persons parading as Obi of Lagos and Ezendigbo Gburugburu for money in the viral voice note obtained by PMEXPRESS.
The explosive admission is contained in the voice note now circulating on WhatsApp and Facebook platforms of Igbo groups in Lagos, where Chief Udeh was heard explaining his role in the issuance of certificates.
A reliable source who was at the meeting told PMEXPRESS that Chief Udeh was invited by Eze John Nwosu-led Council of Elders following petitions over the proliferation of titles in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the General Assembly of the Igbo Speaking Community had earlier removed Chief Udeh as President General at a meeting held on 5th September, 2026, at the National Secretariat in Surulere, Lagos. The General Assembly, which is the highest decision-making organ of the group, comprises LGA Coordinators, women and youth wings, and other stakeholders from across 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs of Lagos State.
The meeting, which was presided over by stakeholders of the community, passed a vote of no confidence on Chief Udeh following allegations of gross misconduct, commercialization of titles and disregard for the constitution. At the same meeting, Chief Chukwudi Chinye was elected as the new President General to pilot the affairs of the community.
This new revelation may bring more crises in the community because some stakeholders felt they were left out in the sharing of the money while others argued that the funds would have been used to buy land for a befitting office for the Igbo Speaking Community instead of sharing it among individuals.
A chieftain who spoke with PMEXPRESS said the money realized from Air Peace and Ezendigbo Gburugburu certificate was enough to secure a land for the community secretariat but it was diverted for personal sharing. He said, the N4 million from Air Peace and N3.5 million from Ezendigbo Gburugburu is N7.5 million. That money would have been used to buy land for befitting office for Igbo Speaking Community instead of sharing it among themselves.
Another stakeholder who was left out in the sharing told PMEXPRESS that many LGA Coordinators and Ndieze were not carried along in the sharing formula and they only got to know about the money during the Council of Elders meeting when Udeh opened up.
The issue of crowning Obi of Lagos and Ezendigbo Gburugburu has generated heated controversy among Igbo groups in Lagos. Stakeholders have argued that the Igbo Speaking Community is a socio-cultural umbrella body and not a traditional institution empowered to crown or issue certificates to any Obi or Eze Gburugburu. They argued that commercializing it for money is capable of causing disaffection and bringing Igbo nation in Lagos to ridicule.
As of the time of filing this report, the voice note has continued to circulate on WhatsApp and Facebook platforms, generating reactions among Igbo stakeholders in Lagos who are now waiting for Udeh to release the full register of beneficiaries.
PMEXPRESS made several efforts to reach Chief Sunday Udeh for his reaction to the allegations and the viral voice note but all efforts proved abortive as his phone line was switched off and messages sent to his WhatsApp were not replied as at the time of filing this report. PMEXPRESS is in possession of the voice notes where Chief Udeh mentioned the Air Peace N4 million and Ezendigbo Gburugburu certificate N3.5 million and how the money was shared among Ndieze, stakeholders, and his Executives, including his threat to release the register containing names of beneficiaries.
