Feminist Diplomacy: French Embassy In Nigeria Introduces Art X Impact Initiative For IWD 2026

Today, the French Embassy in Nigeria revealed the initiation of the Art X Impact Initiative aimed at honouring International Women’s Day 2026. This initiative represents a hybrid artistic recognition of women’s rights across 16 Nigerian states.

In an official communication, the Embassy noted that the project, which involves collaboration among local artists, civil society organisations, and community influencers, has led to the creation of various forms of art, including paintings, songs, sculptures, murals, and dance, aimed at raising awareness about gender equality issues.

As the initiative evolves, the Embassy plans to organise an exhibition showcasing inspiring stories and photographs of women engaged in empowerment initiatives, which will be presented at the 10 French Alliances throughout Nigeria.

This initiative is a continuation of the accomplishments of the French Embassy Fund for Civil Society Organisation (FEC-OSC) Program, a cornerstone effort focused on advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls economically across Nigeria.

Introduced as a facet of France’s feminist diplomatic strategy, the FEF-OSC signifies the effectiveness of collaborative development and local engagement, indicating that solutions generated by the community can create significant impacts and exceptional social benefits.

The FEF-OSC program, created in close collaboration with Nigerian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the Federal Ministry of Women’s Affairs, has supported 21 initiatives in 16 states nationwide. These initiatives address critical issues such as economic empowerment, climate adaptability, peacebuilding, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

“I aspire to be a software engineer who provides new opportunities and empowers other women,” expressed Achi Rebecca, a participant in the She Elevates Tech program by the Hopesalive Initiative for Africa (HAI).

Another participant from the HEAR initiative led by HUFFPED, Adeleye Balikis Arike, remarked: “Reflecting on the training, I can genuinely say it changed my perspective. I learned how to manage my finances and ensure accountability.”

The FEF-OSC program embodies France’s approach to foreign relations, emphasizing a partnership framework that is based on shared benefits and collaborative construction. By centering local leadership and prioritizing the rights of women and girls within its policies, France aligns its initiatives with the aspirations of Nigerian CSOs and the larger objectives outlined in the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
