Fernando Torres Leads 20-man Atletico Madrid Squad To Face Super Eagles In Nigeria

Atletico Madrid star, Fernando Torres, is top on the list of 20 players selected by Coach Diego Simeone for Tuesday’s GOTV Max Cup challenge against the Super Eagles’ B team in Uyo.

Torres officially played his last competitive game for the La Liga giants on Sunday, scoring two goals. But he is still available for the Europa League champions as they make a historic trip to play their first game ever in this part of the world.

Others in Atletico squad are Oblak, Werner, Juanfran, Sergi Montero, Solano, Jota, Rafa Muñoz, Thomas, Gabi, Vitolo, Toni Moya, Agüero, Olabe, Mikel Carro, Joaquín, Torres, Correa, Gameiro, and Borja

While Nigeria squad will parade Olufemi Kayode (Lobi Stars), Olorunleke Ojo (Akwa United), Olufemi Kayode (Rangers International), Musa Muhammed (Lokomotiv Plovdiv), Stanley Okoroma (MFM FC), Ebube Duru (Lobi Stars), Ikouwem Utin (Enyimba FC), Adeleye Olamilekan (FC IfeanyiUbah), Austin Opara (MFM FC), Isiaka Oladuntoye (Enyimba FC), Chinedu Ajana (Katsina United), and Raphael Ayagwa (Plateau United).

The rest are Destiny Ashadi (Katsina United), Kelechi Nwakali (MVV Maastricht, Netherlands), Alhassan Ibrahim (FK Austrian Wien), Chidiebere Nwakali (Aberdeen FC, Scotland), Usman Mohammed (Norway), Dayo Ojo (Sunshine Stars), Emem Eduok (Kasimpasa FC, Turkey), Sadiq Umar (NAC Breda, Netherlands), Tosin Omoyele (Plateau United), Kadiri Samadi (Lobi Stars), and Ibrahim Alhassan (Kano Pillars).

Already, organisers have assured that fans coming to watch the Super Eagles play Atletico Madrid at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo are guaranteed adequate security in and around the match venue.

The match billed for May 22 is an international friendly tournament organised by MultiChoice Nigeria.

Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria, explained that top-notch security arrangements have been put in place to ensure that fans are protected in and around the stadium.

“Our customers and fans alike have nothing to fear, as are working with government and private security officers to ensure safety for everyone who comes to the Godswill Akpabio stadium. As such, we are calling on football fans in Uyo and environs to come and watch the Super Eagles play Atletico Madrid in what promises to be a historic match,” he said.

Atletico Madrid won the Europa League for the third time last Wednesday and finished second in the LaLiga on Sunday

The match will also air live on SuperSport Select 1 on DStv and GOtv at 6 pm.
