Fireboy, Omah Lay, DJ Neptune Win Big At The 14th Headies

The 14th edition of The Headies was held Sunday night at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

At the awards ceremony, new talents Fireboy DML, Omah Lay, DJ Neptune, and Ladipoe win their first-ever Headies awards.

Fireboy has consistently put out amazing music since his first hit single ‘Jealous’ in 2019.

Two albums later, he has cemented himself as one of the leading young artistes in Nigeria.

The YBNL youngster went home with five wins for Best Pop Album, Album of the Year, Best R&B Single, R&B Album of the Year and Revelation of the Year – out of his impressive eight nominations at the 14th Headies.

This is his second Headies appearance and critics are saying the mercurial talent did well for himself.

Omah Lay also made an explosive entry onto the music scene in 2020 with his EP ‘Get Layd’, and his single ‘Bad Influence’ seating at the top of several charts for months.

His second EP, ‘What Have We Done’ only served to drive home the point that Omah Lay is the next big thing in pop music.

This is Omah Lay’s first Headies appearance and he went home with the Next Rated award.

Niniola was not left out, receiving her debut Headies for Best Vocal Performance (Female).

Though she has been nominated several times, this is the first time she will go home with an award.

Another first winner was Ladipoe and he took home his first Headies for the Best Collabo for his song ‘Know You’ ft Simi.

The Cavemen also made an impressive debut at the 14th Headies – not only was it their first Headies appearance, they also took home the award for Best Alternative Album and delivered an amazing performance of their song ‘Anita’.

Several artistes also made impressive first wins with DJ Neptune getting two wins for his hit song ‘Nobody’ in the categories – Song of the Year and Best Pop Single; as well as Moelogo who walked home with the Best Alternative Song for ‘I Wonder’.

Other winners include Songwriter of the year: Simi – Duduke; Best Street-Hop Artiste: Mayorkun – Geng; the Lyricist on the roll Award: IllBliss- Country; Best Recording of the Year: Brymo -Ozymandias; Producer of the Year: Pheelz – Billionaire By Teni; Best Rap Album: AQ – God’s Engineering; Best Music Video: Director K – Davido I Milli; Best Rap Single: Bop Daddy – Falz Feat. Ms. Banks; Best Vocal Performance (Male): Praiz – Under The Sky; Rookie of the Year: Bad Boy Timz; and African Artiste Recognition: Master KG.

StarBoy Wizkid is the Most Awarded Artist in The Headies history with 11 awards as he capped another this year with the Viewers Choice Award and Artist of the year honour.

There was a Special Recognition award to Eedris AbdulKareem while Evangelist Ebenezer Obey was inducted into The Headies’ Hall of Fame.
