Former Lagos Assembly Speaker Arrested Over Killing Of Police Officer

Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, have arrested the former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Joko Pelumi, over the brutal murder of a police Officer, one DSP Akingboju Akindele.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Hon. Pelumi was arrested with 48 other suspected cultists who were linked with the alleged murder. They are currently being detained at SCIID , Yaba, Lagos where they are undergoing interrogation.
The late Akindele who was attached to Area N Police Command, Ijede area of Ikorodu, was attacked and murdered when he joined a team of Anti-Cultism operatives while trying to effect the arrest of suspected cultists in the area. The suspects were said to have overpowered them and in the process killed DSP Akindele.
It was gathered that since the incident took place in October, 2016, the killers went into hiding and the leader of the gang, one Shola, was said to have been hiding inside Hon Pelumi’s house for a long time.
However, the police intensified efforts to bring the culprits to book; eventual trailed and arrested the suspects.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, while parading some of the suspects arrested by the police.
The police boss said that a team of Anti Cultism policemen attached to Area N, Ijede Command, was attacked while trying to effect the arrest of some suspected cultists and in the process the late Akindele was murdered.
The police also recovered the police arms buried in the water fronts in the area. He said since the incident happened, he had directed his officers to fish out the culprits so that they will be brought to book.
CP Edgal said that investigations led to the arrest of 49 suspects including the former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joko Pelumi. He said the arrested suspects were being interrogated at SCIID, Panti and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
Mr. Edgal said that the former Speaker was culpable and will be charged as accomplice because the key suspect was hiding in his house.
