The Ogun State Executive Council has approved a fresh set of strategic infrastructure projects across the state’s three senatorial districts, including road rehabilitation, housing schemes, and institutional buildings.

Announcing the decisions, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the approvals are part of the administration’s drive to sustain infrastructural transformation and improve quality of life for residents.

Road Projects Approved

The Council approved the following roads:

– Ayobo (Mopol Junction)–Lafenwa Junction Road, Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area: 3.6 kilometres with a width of 10 metres.

– Okun-Owa–Ijebu-Ode Road, Odogbolu and Ijebu-Ode Local Government Areas.

– Ago-Iwoye–Ijebu-Igbo–Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road, Ijebu North Local Government Area: 19.05 kilometres with carriageway widths ranging from 5.5 metres to 14 metres.

– Phase One of Odeda-Olugbo Road, Odeda Local Government Area: 5.5 kilometres with an average width of eight metres.

– Agbala Road, Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area: 2.78 kilometres with a width of eight metres.

According to Akinmade, the rehabilitation of these major roads reflects Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to sustainable development and urban regeneration.

He said the projects will help open up communities, reduce travel time, and improve access to markets, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and industrial hubs.

The Executive Council also approved several housing and institutional projects:

– Construction of 450 units of two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows with basic infrastructure facilities.

– Development of 28 new official quarters for members of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

– Construction of 28 sellable duplexes at Ibara Government Reservation Area, GRA Scheme II.

– Reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

– Construction of new legislative quarters.

Akinmade explained that the reconstruction of the House of Assembly quarters and the Governor’s Lodge is aimed at providing a conducive environment for governance, preserving valuable government assets, and ensuring a seamless transition for future administrations.

He noted that many government buildings inherited by the present administration were over 50 years old and had deteriorated beyond economical rehabilitation.

Their reconstruction forms part of a broader urban regeneration programme that has transformed ageing public structures into modern facilities across the state.

The 450-unit housing project, he added, will complement the administration’s affordable housing programme by expanding access to decent accommodation and stimulating economic activities through the construction sector.

The 28 sellable duplexes at Ibara GRA Scheme II, he said, will enhance the value of the estate, encourage private investment, and strengthen Ogun State’s position as a preferred destination for residential and commercial development.

The approvals, Akinmade stated, align with the administration’s policy of replacing obsolete public infrastructure with modern, functional, and durable facilities to meet the state’s growing needs.
