Gov Diri Warns Traditional Rulers Against Partisan Politics

The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has urged traditional rulers in the State to ensure that they remain apolitical. 

Diri made this known while addressing traditional rulers on the need to ensure that political parties are allowed to have a level playing ground in Bayelsa State.

According to Douye Diri, every traditional ruler in Bayelsa State must ensure that there is peace and stability in their various communities and traditional rulers must ensure that they accommodate every political party. He warned the traditional rulers that he will not hesitate to dethrone any traditional ruler who favours one political party over the others.

Diri stated that the traditional rulers must welcome any political party that comes to their community. He also told the traditional rulers that they must not allow political parties to use members of their communities in committing violent acts against other political parties.

The Governor urged the traditional rulers to report any political party or politician that plans to cause havock in their community.

According to Diri, every political party must be allowed to conduct their programmes in Bayelsa State without any form of intimidation. He told the traditional rulers to ensure that they report any politician or political party that promotes violence in the state.
