The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has been honoured with an award as the “Crime Prevention Personality of the Year” by the African Youth Initiative on Crime Prevention.

Governor Willie Obiano received the award on 16th May, 2019, at the 10th National Youth Summit on Crime Prevention organised by the African Youth Initiative on Crime Prevention with the theme ” Combating Radicalism and Violent Extremism in Local Communities: Perspective and Practices”. The event was held at Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos, Yaba, Lagos State.

Governor Obiano was represented at the occasion by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Obika Chidiebele, who received the award on his behalf.

Presenting the award on behalf of AYICRIP, the Nigeria Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), Mr. Oliver Stolp, stated that Governor Obiano is outstanding in the fight against crimes and criminality when compared with other governors in the country.

Earlier in his remark, the founder and Executive Director of AYICRIP, Mr. Chris Ibe, appreciated Governor Willie Obiano on his sterling performances in the management of security in the state. He recalled that few years ago, notable flashpoints like Upper-Iweka, Temporary site, Unizik, among others were dens of criminals. But through Obiano’s integrated approach to security and youth inclusion in governance, he changed the state’s narrative and she became the safest state in Nigeria.

In his vote of thanks, Obika Chidiebele, who represented the Governor, and had earlier spoken on the topic; “Multi Dimensional Approach in Solving Security Issues: The Anambra Experience” reeled out comprehensively on how the Governor countered and won the fight against insecurity with the creation of jobs.

In conclusion, he deeply thanked the organisers for finding Anambra State and Chief Willie Obiano worthy of the honour; pointing that the award would encourage the Governor to doing more for the people.
