The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has shown appreciation to Ndigbo resident in the State for their diligence in commerce and their integrity in paying of bills, stressing that their partnership was highly appreciated.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Governor did so last Saturday during the recommissioning of Igbo Community Centre and New Yam festival held in Okota, Lagos.

The host was the Ezendigbo and Chairman, Council of Ndieze in Lagos State, Eze Christian Uchechukwu Nwachukwu.

In his remarks, Governor, Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by one of his aides, Mr. Wale Adelano, stated that the progress in the state would not have been achieved without the inputs from Ndigbo resident in the state.

Eze Nwachukwu thanked the Lagos State Government for their efforts in rebuilding the Igbo Community Centre and promised that the Igbo in Lagos State will continue to support government and its policies in the State.

Nwachukwu recalled that the Igbo Community Centre was built in 2005 and was commissioned by the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu through his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
However, the Lagos State Government renovated it, which was recommissioned by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Eze Nwachukwu explained that the Igbo Community is the parent body of all the Igbo groups and it was formed to protect the interest of the Igbo in general.

He said that the idea for building the centre was to create avenue where Igbo activities can be held and to display the rich Igbo culture and tradition in order to have them preserved in Lagos State. It will also be a place where information will be disseminated to Ndigbo living in Wards and Local Governments areas. Government polices will equally be promoted and Igbo sons and daughters, who have excelled in their different fields of endeavour will be recognized and presented with awards.

Nwachukwu stressed that the Igbo Community Centre is a place of honour, where unity and peace will be promoted among ethnic groups in Lagos State.

The event, which had guests from both within and outside Lagos State, witnessed the display of different Igbo cultural dances.
