Gov Sanwo-Olu Set To Recommission Igbo Community Centre During New Yam Festival

All is set for the recommissioning of the Multi-Million Naira Igbo Community Centre built by the Lagos State Government in Ago, Okota area, to foster unity among the ethnic groups in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the centre will be recommissioned by the amiable Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during the annual Igbo New Yam festival coming up on Saturday 14th November, 2020.

Dignitaries within and outside the State will be attending the event. Professor Chigozie Bright Nnabuihe of the Department of Linguistics African and Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos, will be the Chairman of the occasion.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of ethnic groups and Ezendigbo, Lagos State, Eze Christian Nwachukwu, at his palace in Okota, Lagos.
He explained that the centre was commissioned in 2005 during the period Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was governor through his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

However, the present administration led by Sanwo-Olu renovated and expanded it to a befitting standard. The works were completed this year and it is now ready to be recommissioned.

Eze Nwachukwu thanked the Lagos State Government and the Executives assuring them of the commitment of the Igbo in Lagos to continue to support the Government.

On the importance of the New Yam festival, Eze Nwachukwu said that it is a period when the Igbo gather to celebrate by thanking God for a successful season and also disseminate information to the Igbo community in Lagos in order to promote coexistence among the ethnic groups in the State.


 He further explained that the event provides opportunity to educate populace and promote government policies in Lagos and urged the Igbo to key into the programme for the benefit of all.


Nwachukwu enjoined the Igbo sons and daughters to attend the event to welcome the amiable and performing Governor of the State.
