In a bold move to transform Kwara to a beacon of green and eco-friendly environmental, the state government, under the visionary leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has embarked on a comprehensive plan to create a clean, safe and healthy living environment for residents and potential investors in the State.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, showcased the administration’s unwavering commitment to a healthy environment during the ongoing quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the Ministry of Communications, today in Ilorin.

According to the Commissioner, “Governor AbdulRazaq’s dedication to ensuring a sustainable, hygienic, and safe environment that all Kwarans and potential investors can be proud of is unparalleled.”

She disclosed that the State’s environmental initiatives have been far-reaching, including the dredging of the Asa River, construction of embankments, dredging of Kuntu, Surulere, and Eruda bridges, as well as the desilting of drainages across the State. Additionally, the government has provided more waste bins, expanded the dump sites for proper waste disposal, and encouraged waste recycling.

Hajia Buge further disclosed that to address the recurring challenges in the State’s riverine areas, the administration has presented Banana Boats with life jackets to riverine communities to ensure the safety of the residents.

In addition, the government has taken decisive actions to curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse, including the inauguration of an environmental taskforce and the banning of unregistered scavengers in the metropolis.

The Commissioner also stated that the government has purchased medium-sized ‘Waste Collection bins’ for shop owners and households, which the Ministry will soon start selling for proper refuse disposal.

She, therefore, appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq’s unflinching support to the Ministry to achieve its policy thrust of clean Kwara.

“Governor AbdulRazaq’s unwavering commitment to creating a greener, cleaner, and healthier Kwara that has set the stage for a remarkable transformation, positioning the state as a model of environmental stewardship. This progressive vision is set to pave the way for a sustainable future, benefiting both the residents and the State’s economic growth,” she said.
