Guardian, 36, In Trouble For Flogging 6-year Old Pupil Inside School

A 36-year old female guardian, Smart Blessing, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly flogging a 6-year old female pupil, Miss Grace Smart, inside the school premises. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Blessing has been arrested and charged for unlawful assault on the victim.

 

The incident happened at Scholars Builders School, Ishefun, Ayobo area of Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the victim’s parents saw injury on her body and asked the school management to know what happened. It was the discovered that the guardian was alleged to be behind it.  The parents reported the matter to the Police. The guardian was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

That you, Smart Blessing on the 8th day of July, 2024, at about 1000hours at Scholars Builders School, Ishefun – Ayobo, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Grace Smart ‘f, 6years old by flogging her with a cane and other objects and caused injuries all over her body and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT II: That you. Smart Blessing ‘f’ on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did indecently treat Grace Smart f’ 6years old by flogging her with a cane and other objects and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

 

However, she pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 30th September, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
