Handball: Tandoh Receives Victorious Team Lagos From Sam Ocheho Tournament

The investment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State in grassroots sports in the state has continued to yield positive results as the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr Kweku Adedayo Tandoh on Friday received at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, the victorious Lagos State Team to the recently concluded 4th Sam Ocheo Invitational Handball Championship.

The event was a four-day programme in two categories. One was for the age-group tournament which is National U-12 and U-15 Championship involving all the states and the FCT, while Sam Ocheho tournament was a senior category involving states and some neighboring countries. The Sam Ocheo tournament, which was held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos, had participants from Lagos, Kuala, Ogun, Niger among other states.

Team Lagos won both male and female events in the U-15 categories, while Team Lagos came second in the U-12 male event.

The victorious Team Lagos came to present the trophy to the Executive Chairman of the Sports Commission, Dr Tandoh who commended the ahletes for doing the state proud. He also commended the Secretary and the coaching crew of Lagos State Handball Association for their commitment and efforts to make the success a reality.

“I commend you all for your commitment and hardworking throughout the championships, ” he said.

He, however, admonished the athletes to take cognisance of their education, noting that education should be a priority in their life while sports is secondary.

He warned that henceforth, Lagos State will not allow any school age athletes to represent the state in any championship without being in the school.

The Chairman thanked the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for his support and allowing the athletes to represent the state at the championship and other school base competitions.

Director of Sports Development of the Commission, Kolawole Moses, commended the Executive Chairman for facilitating the Team Lagos’ participation at this year’s Sam Ocheo Invitational Handball Championships.
