Housewife Loses N1.5b Jewelries To Thieves
MICHAEL AKINOLA

A housewife, Mrs. Uju Ifejika, has reportedly lost jewelries worth a whopping sum of N1.5b to thieves believed to be domestic staff in her Ikoyi home in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the thieves allegedly burgled her home on 26th May, 2019, entered her bedroom and carted away the items comprising diamond and gold jewelries including a cash of £30,000 and escaped.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with the theft namely, one female, Nnenna Anari, 25, Babalola Olaitan, 42 and the buyer, Bashiru Yahaya, 32.
The alleged theft was reported to the operatives of State Anti-Robbery Squad at Ikeja Command, Lagos, who moved in to investigate the theft and arrested the suspects. So far the three suspects, who were arrested including the buyer of the suspected items, were detained at the Command for investigation.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the confessional statement by Nnenna and Babalola led to the arrest of the buyer, Yahaya.
They were charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The Police alleged that the defendants and others now at large, conspired and burgled Mrs. Ifejika’s home and carted away the items when she was not around. When she returned home and discovered that her home was burgled, she went where she kept the items only to discover that they were no longer there and she then reported to the Police.
However, when they were arraigned the defendants denied and pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Supol Peter Nwaogwugwu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegation before the Court.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O Aje-Afunwa, granted them bail in the sum of N19m with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 29th August, 2019.
