A housewife, Mrs. Rasaki Taibat, has paid the supreme sacrifice in Ekiti State while separating a fight between two men as one of them used a broken bottle and stabbed her to death in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 10th March, 2024, in Otun Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of the State, where they reside.
Mr. Tajudeen Olaleye, the 45-year old man, who stabbed her during the fight, has been arrested and charged for murder under the Criminal Laws of the State.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Yomi Osuolale, told the Court that the defendant murdered one late Mrs. Rasaki Taibat by stabbing her with a broken bottle when she attempted to settle a brawl between Olaleye and another person.
“There was a fight between the defendant and someone in the neighbourhood. The deceased tried to mediate between the two parties; in the process, the defendant stabbed her with a bottle, which led to her death.”
“The offence contravened Section 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2012,” he stated.
The prosecutor urged the Court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Court did not take his plea following the motion moved by the prosecutor for his remand. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice.
The matter was adjourned till 25th April, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
