How Fraudsters Use Catholic Adoration To Dupe People
CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

Police operatives from Ejigbo Division have uncovered the activities of fraudsters, who use St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Adoration Centre, Oke Afa, Ejigbo area of Lagos, to swindle innocent people.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the scam was said to have been happening before now but later came to the open following the recent one which took place on 29th December, 2020, at the Church premises.
A 21-year old apprentice, Obinna Bright Nna, was taken to the Church from Orile and swindled of the sum of N1m under the false pretence that the Spiritual Director, Rev. Father Leo, will collect the money, pray for him and he will get N300m in return.
The victim, Obinna Nna, believed them, took his master’s money, followed them to the Church, where they obtained the money from him and from there they escaped.

The victim waited for several hours for the Rev. Father to pray for him so that he will get the N300m promised to no avail. It was then he realised that he had been duped.
He then opened up to his master, Dominic Okorie, about what happened and he was handed over to the Police at Ejigbo Division for conspiracy and stealing.
During interrogation, he revealed that the gang had been trailing him since November 2020 before they eventually used the Church to dupe him.
He was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence and he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 8th February, 2021.
