The fate of two Mobile Police officers, Supol Daniel Samuel and Inspector Bulus Yahona, is hanging in the balance after they were allegedly attacked and shot by armed thugs and Police officers from Lagos State Command claimed to have been led by the Executive Chairman, Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, Mayor Dele Oshinowo.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the two officers, Supol Samuel and Inspector Yahona, are lying critically ill at an undisclosed hospital as Doctors are battling to save their lives due to severe injuries they sustained during the attack.
The incident happened at Idene Owode Onirin area of Mile 13, Ikorodu Road, Lagos, where the officers were performing their lawful duty on execution of valid Lagos High Court judgment.
According to the residents, the LCDA Chairman, Mayor Oshinowo, allegedly led the armed men with dangerous weapons to the parcel of land, which the LG lost the matter before the Court after several years of litigations.
The Court gave Judgement in favour of Olowu family, which made the LG Chairman, Mayor Oshinowo, to resort to self help in total disregard of the Court order and the victims were attacked in the process.
Trouble was said to have started after the Olowu Family went to execute Lagos State High Court judgment, which granted them possession of the landed property located at Owode Onirin, which was covered by survey plan number, MAL/121/77 made by Mr. Olaoye licensed surveyor dated 26th February,1977.
The suit with number, ID/1757/1994 between Mr. Femi Festus Olowu and Bode Olowu for themselves and on behalf of B.I.Olowu Family versus the Local Government and Agbajowo Market Association.
The presiding judge, Justice M.A. Savage, gave the order to Olowu family to take possession of the land and directed the Lagos State Police Command, Task Force and other security agencies under the Command to provide sufficient security in ensuring the execution of the orders of the Court dated 20th June, 2024.
While the Mobile Police officers were there on lawful duty to enforce the judgment of the Court, Mayor Oshinowo mobilized Police officers the Lagos State Command led by ASP Salako and some thugs including the officials of the Local Government, went there and attacked the victims including the Police officers, who were allegedly shot in the process.
Some members of the Olowu family were arrested and detained at the State Police Command allegedly aided by Oshinowo and his cohorts to subvert the subsisting Court judgment.
Meanwhile, the family has written a petition to the Inspector General of Police to intervene and bring those who perpetrated the dastardly act without recourse to the Judgement of the Lagos State High Court in favour of Olowu family.
What still baffles the family is how a Local Government Chairman, who is the enforcer of the law, will be the breaker of the law and he was aware of the Court judgment and yet he mobilized hoodlums to cause violence in the area.
They called on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to call the Local Government officials including Oshinowo to order not to cause breach of public peace in the area and indeed in the State.
Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Local Government, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, over the matter proved abortive as at the time of filing the report.
