How Man, 21, Impersonated To Obtain The Sum Of N.5m

A 21-year old man, Akorode Alonge, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly forging another person’s name and using it to obtain N.521m owed the person he forged his name and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 24th April, 2024, at Idimu area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect, Alonge, stole the money from Diogbe Sola, who owed Awolabi Thomas. The suspect got information that Sola wanted to pay Thomas and he perfected the plan to collect the money from Sola.
He reportedly forged Thomas’ name and details and sent to Sola, who innocently paid him the money with the intention that he was paying the right person before it was discovered that he paid to the wrong person.
The alleged fraud was reported to the Police at Idimu Division. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested Alonge and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence. t
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 21st May, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
