How Man Died In Police Custody At SCIID Panti

The death of a man, Omolola Rotimi Ejioye, in Police custody at SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, has sparked controversy as the rumour going on has it that the deceased was tortured to death.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Ejioye was arrested on Sunday 2nd May, 2021, at Ladega area of Ikorodu, alongside some other suspects for alleged murder. He was subsequently transferred to SCIID, Panti, for further investigation but he died and his corpse was deposited at an undisclosed mortuary for autopsy report.

However, since the incident happened, there had been rumours flying around the media space that the late suspect was tortured to death by the Policemen at SCIID. But the State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has come out to clarify the incident as against the rumours flying around, concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of the suspect.

The Police boss stated that there was a case of suspected murder which was transferred from Ikorodu Police Division of the Lagos State Command to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba, Lagos, on Tuesday May 4th, 2021, and the deceased was one of the suspects brought alongside the case file.

The CP went on to say that the attention of the officers on duty were drawn to the strange behaviour of the deceased, and the Police had to rush him down to the Falomo Police Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos State, where he eventually gave up the ghost. 

Ejioye, according to the Police, was believed to be battling with some underlying ailments.The Police boss further advised the general public to disregard any unconfirmed news that the deceased died from torture in the hands of the Lagos State Police officers.

However, some aggrieved friends and relations of the deceased have carried out a peaceful protest at the Police Station, where Ejioye was detained before his death.
