The efforts of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, to checkmate rising activities of hoodlums in Ughelli, Warri and Sapele areas of the state, may have started paying off following the arrest of a 19-year old leader of a notorious armed robbery gang, Destiny Okpako, during operation in the state.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the kingpin, Okpako, who hails from Oviri-Okpe, was arrested alongside two other members of his gang, Blessing Atima, 23 and 20-year old Wisdom Akpohirowho, both of Jesse town of Delta State.
The Police also recovered some weapons as exhibits during the operation that lasted for several hours.
They were arrested by the Special Squad of security operatives deployed by the State Commissioner of Police, who trailed and eventually arrested the suspects now in Police custody undergoing interrogation over their alleged criminal conduct.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who revealed that they were arrested in Sapele by the operatives, who acted on credible intelligence.
SP Edafe stated that one beretta pistol, one locally cut-to-size gun, three cutlasses, assorted phones and ATM cards were recovered from the suspects as exhibits during the operation.
He stated that investigation is ongoing and some of their victims have identified them and their stolen properties recovered as exhibits. The suspects as well have already confessed to have taken part in six of the armed robbery operations in Sapele.
He stated that the suspects will be charged before the Court for the alleged criminal offences but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
