How Son’s Bid To Extort Money From Father By Staging Kidnapping Failed

It appears that children nowadays have resorted to different means of extorting money from their parents through faking kidnapping following what recently happened in Lagos and Jigawa States.
Barely few days after two Ladies, Agnes Ogbeh,23 and Esther Anyanwu, 24, faked their kidnap and demanded ransom from their parents in Lagos State, another person have equally done so in Jigawa State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police intelligence operatives have uncovered how an 18-year-old boy, Safiyanu Lawan, kidnapped himself in a bid to extort money from his father but was caught in Jigawa State.
This was disclosed by the Jigawa State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect and he is undergoing interrogation over his alleged conduct.
He stated that the incident happened on 19th April, 2024, at about 2:30 pm, when one Alhaji Lawan Dankoli of Kiyawa LGA reported at the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse that on April 17, 2024, his son, Safiyanu Lawan, went out for shopping in preparation for school resumption but has not returned.
He added that later on the same date, at about 11:20 pm, an unknown person called him several times with an unknown number and threatened that his son, Safiyanu, had been kidnapped.
Shiisu said on receipt of the information, a team of Policemen attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse swung into action and visited the scene of the crime where a 27-year-old man, identified as Abdulrazak Salisu of Zango quarters, Kiyawa LGA, was arrested in connection with the case.
He explained that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have known where the said Safiyanu was hiding and that they conspired together in order to collect money from the father.
The Police spokesman said the team swiftly moved to the location and arrested the acclaimed victim (Safiyanu Lawan) and detained him at the State Command for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
He stated that investigation is ongoing and that the suspects have made confessional statement while the suspects will be arraigned for prosecution after the conclusion of investigation by the Police.
The incidence of self kidnapping have happened in other areas across the States, where children put themselves in hostage and demanded for ransom from their relatives.
