A 61-year old Pastor, whose married tenant, Godwin Emmanuel, allegedly defiled and impregnated his 16-year old daughter, has narrated to the Court in Lagos State how it all happened.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between April and July 2021 at Ajangbadi area of Badagry, Lagos, where they reside.
The Pastor, (name withheld), narrated his ordeal before an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court how his tenant, Emmanuel, defiled and impregnated the daughter.
An embittered Pastor also revealed that after Emmanuel had impregnated his daughter, his wife, who is a nurse, gave drugs to his daughter in order to abort the pregnancy. But the pregnancy remained and she was eventually delivered of a baby girl.
The Lagos State Government had arraigned the tenant Emmanuel, before the Court on a one-count charge of defilement, for which he pleaded not guilty, hence the trial commenced.
The prosecution told the Court that the alleged offence Emmanuel committed contravened the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
Having pleaded not guilty, the State counsel, Ms Abimbola Abolade, invited the Pastor to testify before the Court as witness and he told the Court that Emmanuel was his tenant, whom he knew through an estate agent.
The Pastor stated that he had known Emmanuel for three to four years and that his daughter identified the defendant as the person responsible for her pregnancy since he had been sleeping with her.
“Godwin Emmanuel defiled my daughter and impregnated her at the age of 16 years. I reported the case at Area K Police Command in Badagry, where my daughter confirmed that he had been sleeping with her for a long time.”
“My daughter kept the pregnancy and gave birth to a female child,” he said.
Under cross-examination by defence counsel, Mr. Victor Edet, the Pastor told the Court that he could not recollect the precise date that he reported the case to the Police. He said however, that he later reported the case at the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and at a medical centre when the Police did nothing about his complaint.
“I was convinced that it was the defendant, who impregnated my daughter after Godwin Emmanuel’s wife, a nurse, gave drugs to her to abort the pregnancy.”
The Pastor also told the Court that his daughter told him that during one of the sex romps, the condom he used broke and Godwin Emmanuel continued which may resulted into pregnancy.
He stated that Emmanuel however, told his daughter to shift responsibility to a third person, whom he introduced to her.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Abiola Soladoye, further the matter for continuation of hearing  till 11th December, 2023.
