I waited for the burial frenzy surrounding Madam Oragwa, Zenco’s mother, to die down before revealing a crucial conversation between Zenco and Governor Soludo. The Governor attended the event at Ukpor a day after the actual burial, as he had been informed that the burial would take place on January 10th. However, the Governor was unable to attend due to matters of State.
Zenco, who built a 2.1km road in Ukpor in honor of his late mother, had planned to coincide the road’s commissioning with the burial ceremony on same day. Unfortunately, this plan clashed with the Governor’s activities, standing it against the burial law. Governor Soludo, upon learning that the burial had taken place a day earlier, refused to attend the event venue where Zenco was still engaged in a lavish party with family, friends and business associates, despite intense entreaties from Zenco.
Instead, the Governor commissioned the road, thanked Zenco for his philanthropy, and reminded him that he had breached the state’s burial law, before zooming off. This law, which Governor Soludo himself had adhered to during his father’s burial, states that no burial ceremony should exceed one day. This regulation aims to prevent undue burden on the living and maintain the solemnity of the occasion.
The Governor’s actions serve as a valuable lesson in leadership and adherence to the law, highlighting the importance of responsibility and accountability in building a sane society.
