Igbo Speaking Community’s BOT Moves To Expand Membership Amid Appointment Dispute

The Board of Trustees of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, has concluded plans to expand its membership in line with its constitutional responsibility as custodian of the community, http://pmexpressng.com findings show.

This was disclosed by the BOT Chairman, Dr. Jonathan Nnaji, in a statement issued on Tuesday and obtained by http://pmexpressng.com.

Dr. Nnaji confirmed that the board has passed a resolution to admit additional members to strengthen its capacity to serve the community. He said the move is part of efforts to reposition the organization for greater service delivery.

He clarified that the current BOT members meet regularly and take decisions in the best interest of the community. He explained that the functions of the BOT are distinct from those of the National Executive Council, NEC, and the Executive Committee. According to him, both bodies have no role in the selection or appointment of BOT members under the organization’s constitution.

The BOT statement comes amid questions within the community over the proper procedure for appointing new trustees. The issue of whether the General Assembly or NEC can appoint and file new BOT members at the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, without approval from the existing board has generated discussion among stakeholders.

Dr. Nnaji however, maintained that under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA 2020, only the existing BOT has the legal power to add or remove trustees.

“The BOT already has a list of nominees undergoing profiling. Once they meet the required criteria, their names will be forwarded to the CAC for approval,” he stated.

He further explained that the BOT operates in accordance with its constitution and CAMA 2020. The board, he said, remains committed to due process, transparency, and the overall growth of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos State.

The BOT Chairman urged all parties to follow constitutional procedures to avoid disputes that could affect the community’s operations. He called on members to support the board’s efforts to strengthen the organization.
