The traditional ruler of Umuchu town in Aguata Local Government area of Anambra State, Igwe Gody Ezechukwu, has removed Mr. Matthew Ezennia Madueke as the chairman of Ndi Ichie and returned the position to Ugwuakwu village.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Ihite General Assembly community in Umuchu town led by Chief Bonaventure Muokwe wrote a petition to Igwe Gody Ezechukwu pointing out the breach of the Umuchu cabinet constitution by appointing Mr. Matthew Maduekwe as Chairman of Ndi Ichie.

In the letter dated 20th February,2025 addressed to Igwe Umuchu with caption  “A stitch In Time Saves Nine” it stated:

“The problem of tomorrow tends to originate from incidents of today. This is as it concerns the wrongful appointment/coronation/installation of Mr. Matthew Ezennia Mmadueke as the Chairman of Ndichie.”

“The constitution of Umuchu is attached and marked (A). At page 6 of the annexure, it stated thus: “The Chairman of the committee of Ichies shall be the Isiobi of Ugwuakwu, which is the eldest unit in Umuchu” At page 41 of the referenced constitution, it drove the nail inches further when it concluded thus: Where the provisions of the constitution of any branch or village union or any organization in the town conflict with the provisions of this constitution, those of this constitution shall prevail”

“You will agree and it is true that, the issue under complaint was an error of judgement on the part of the palace. Its adversity to Ihite explains why we are requesting the correction via thus:

1. The palace is to write Mr Matthew Ezennia Mmadueke drawing his attention to the error, in addition to withdrawing his appointment/coronation/ installation as the Chairman of Ndichie.”

In response to the letter, Igwe Gody Ezechukwu wrote a letter of Mr Matthew Madueke through his palace secretary, Professor Echezona Ifejirika, removing him as Chairman of Ndi Ichie in Umuchu town.

The letter dated 1st March,2025, sent to Chief Nze, Ichie Matthew Ezannaya (Okanimee Umuchu) stated:

“Sir,

REVERSAL OF YOUR POSITION/POST AS THE CHAIRMAN OF NDI ICHIE UMUCHU

In respect of the petition written by the leadership of IHITE GENERAL ASSEMBLY to the Palace, dated 20” February, 2025 challenging your present post as the chairman of Ndi Ichie Umuchu; and in consideration of the relevant Umuchu constitution in relation to the matter which states that:

“The chairman of the committee of Ichies shall be the Isiobi of Ugwuakwu, which is the eldest unit in Umuchu, the palace painstakingly read through the above constitutional provision and decided to advise you to step down and relinquish the chairman of Ndi Ichie Umuchu to the appropriate quarters.”

“By a copy of this memo, you shall cease to act as the chairman of Ndi Ichie Umuchu. Thanks for your services so well rendered prior to this development.”
